I am pleased to share with you the spring issue of Navigator, which reviews the influences and dynamics affecting prices and availability of the key categories you buy across the foodservice sector. Click on the image above ☝ for full information
This issue talks about the continued volatility and uncertainty we’ve seen characterise market conditions up and down the supply chain over the last few months. These factors have and will have an impact on availability and prices for many categories. They have been caused by several influences including: extreme weather conditions, which have affected a range of different crops, along with UK wage growth, tensions and conflicts in Ukraine/Russia, Gaza Strip, as well as the Red Sea. This not only affects category prices, but also transport, and operational costs too.
However, whilst it looks like overall inflation may well have peaked, we should remember that we are still experiencing highly elevated prices. We are not seeing prices going down, just lower levels of inflation.
I am also delighted to introduce a further piece in this issue written by James Walton, Chief Economist at the Institute of Grocery Distribution (the IGD). James talks about the current economic landscape, the key drivers of inflation, and the impact that this is having on the out of home sector. We also feature some of our own experts’ advice, insight and tips to help you navigate price changes and minimise their impact on your menu.
We hope that you find this additional insight useful when it comes to planning for the coming season.
As always, along with our suppliers, we are working hard on your behalf to offer you real value, competitive prices and to help you navigate the current market conditions. Our teams are happy to discuss with you how these price increases affect the products you buy from us and help you find ways of minimising their impact on your menus and margin. For example, by suggesting appropriate alternatives.
Thank you once again for your continued support and much valued business.
Best Wishes
Jayne
