Hello,
We want to inform you that O2 is in the process of switching off its 3G network in order to make way for faster, more reliable 4G and 5G services.
What does this mean for you?
If you are using a 2G, 3G, or non-VoLTE device, you will only be able to make emergency calls after the switch-off.
If you are using a 4G/5G VoLTE-enabled device, you will be able to continue using services as usual.
When will the switch-off happen?
The O2 3G network will be turned off at the end of 2025, although some areas may be closed earlier, which we will inform you of.
O2 has chosen Durham as the first place to switch off the 3G network in April 2025. Our team will contact you if the network has seen recent usage in Durham.
To ensure you stay connected, we recommend upgrading to a 4G or 5G device as soon as possible.
What does this mean for O2's 2G network?
2G services will be limited to:
Smart Metering and existing IoT connections.
999 emergency calls.
2G voice and SMS when outside of 4G coverage (for 4G/5G VoLTE-enabled customers).
What should you do?
Check if your current device supports 4G or 5G.
Upgrade your device to ensure uninterrupted service after the 3G switch-off.
If you have any questions or need help upgrading our team is ready to assist you.
We are committed to providing you with the best possible mobile experience, and we look forward to keeping you connected with the latest technology.
